General information:
The plant fire department is responsible for preventive and defensive fire protection and general fire protection on the entire plant site. It can also be called upon by the public fire department for support outside the plant premises.
All firefighters perform their duties in the plant fire department voluntarily and on a part-time basis. The firefighters are distributed among all shifts, so there are always firefighters present at the plant. In addition, there is always a group on emergency service.
The emergency forces present in the plant are alerted by telephone and the free shifts are alerted via digital pagers and private cell phones.
The history of the plant fire department:
The history of our plant fire department dates back to the summer of 1966.
Due to the temporary closure of the railroad crossing at Peterstor, the Bad Hersfeld fire department was unable to ensure fire protection at the plant at all times. It was therefore decided to establish a company fire department at the plant. Thus, 1966 marked the birth of the Höchst AG company fire department at the Bad Hersfeld plant.
Over the next few years, the equipment of the plant fire department was constantly improved. In October 1974, the company fire department applied to the Kassel Regional Council for recognition as a plant fire department, which was granted in June 1975.
This recognition continues to be reviewed by the Kassel Regional Council, and we have retained our status as a recognized plant fire department to this day.
The first emergency vehicles were a Magirus-Deutz TLF 16 tank fire truck and a Unimog dry fire truck with a 750 KG ABC extinguishing powder system and a water cannon.
Since the Bad Hersfeld fire department also responds to major incidents at our plant, joint training and exercises with the firefighters of Bad Hersfeld have been and continue to be carried out on a regular basis. We were also alerted to some of the Bad Hersfeld fire department’s operations outside the plant to support them.
The equipment as well as the vehicles were adapted repeatedly to the changed needs of the plant. Today, we have a TLF 16/25 tank fire truck and a GW-L2 logistics truck.
